In an interview in this month’s issue of Men’s Vogue, Will Smith openly comes out as a Scientologist and claims that 98% of all Scientology teachings are identical to those in the Bible. Quote: “like 98 percent of the principles [of Scientology] are identical to the principles of the Bible.”
Um, we’re having trouble recalling the part of the Bible that says that the holy spirit is actually an alien, sorry a thetan, from Venus. We also can’t quite seem to draw any parallels with the part about celebrities getting a 10% commission for every person they convert to Scientology. Yeaaah, drawing a blank.
We find it hard to believe that a man that we have looked up to for years, a man that is the A-list actor, a man who was accepted to MIT– a school with one of the nation’s leading green campuses and whose research founded green chemicals which reduce toxic product release– could ever join a church whose headquarters are located in Times Square. No joke.
Scientology also purports that the ultimate goal in life is to achieve a state of “livingness.” We’re having a lot trouble believing that someone with at least two brain cells, let alone an acceptance to MIT, could ever take Scientology seriously. Livingness? Come on, now. Chesterman
