THE GREENHORNE REPORTPregnant man Thomas Beatie has joined the ranks of Nicole Kidman after giving birth to his new baby girl on Sunday. What are the chances she might be a little confused when she gets older?

Barack Obama announced that he’ll be officially accepting the Democratic nomination in the Denver Broncos stadium on August 28. And if you donate between now and the end of the month, you’ll be entered into a sweepstakes to be flown to the green convention and meet Barack himself. As for the veepstakes, things are getting even more complicated now that Virginia Senator Jim Webb, who was on most people’s short lists for Barack’s VP, has said he wouldn’t take the bid.

Meanwhile, John McCain’s changed his mind about offshore drilling. Having once pushed alternative energy, he’s now proposing coastal drilling as a “short term” (in his own words!) solution to the skyrocketing gas prices, which have now hit more records than Kanye.

Rafael Nadal took down Roger Federer yesterday in the Wimbledon final, ending the Swiss man’s five-year reign at the championship. Two times in one month Rog? And how about Spain? Last week Euro 2008, this week Wimbledon!

Better than California. Hundreds of fires have flared up, mostly started by lightning, near Big Sur in the past two weeks. Firefighters ordered 1,500 people to evacuate last week as the fires spread, helped along by the 100,000 dead oak trees (killed off by sudden oak death) in the area.

Also dead is A-Rod’s marriage to his wife. Madonna is denying any reports of a hookup with the Yankee, and Lenny Kravitz is doing the same with Alex’s soon-to-be ex-wife. So Alex won’t be at Madonna’s new tour?

Madonna and Britney Spears

Like many other business moguls, Madonna is employing green tactics. For her upcoming "Sticky & Sweet" tour, Madonna is having Britney Spears tape a performance that will be shown at the concerts instead of flying her into select cities.

Britney’s taped performance, like the increasing use of video conferencing in the corporate world, will help to reduce carbon emissions by cars and airplanes. A study conducted by one British company found that its use of video conferencing and the use of other inter-face digital technologies saved employees 377,745 miles on the road, 11,804 gallons of gasoline, and gave them 7,538 more hours at their desks. Though Britney doesn’t need any more time to wander L.A. than she already has, Brit’s lack of travel can offset Guy Ritchie’s increased trips.
