The Hills' Lauren Conrad

Lauren Conrad thinks this might be the last season of the Hills. She says she wakes up in the middle of the night and fears she’s being filmed. What, she doesn’t sleep with a full face of makeup just in case?! The star of MTV’s most popular show seems to have had enough. Surely, when she first signed on for Laguna Beach, Conrad had no concept of the price of fame. Except, if anything, MTV is the one paying, and Conrad’s making bank. Girlfriend made $1.5 million last year. So why on earth would our favorite cash cow back out now? Vacay time? Nope. She has a book proposal in the works, and plans to launch her own television and production company.

Even if this is the last season of our favorite guilty pleasure, Lauren Conrad won’t be going away anytime soon. Perhaps the paparazzi-induced commotion will subside…ok, probably not. However, might we recommend that our paparazzi friends at least do the earth a favor and start recycling their old cameras? Both Sony and Canon offer great green options. We wouldn’t want anyone feeling guilty about snappin’ pics of Conrad in her sleep.

Dr. Horrible, May All Your Evil Devices Be Energy Efficient

Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible

Neil Patrick Harris only seems to shine when he plays a genius. We all met him as Doogie Howser, MD, the iconic boy physician. Then, he sort of disappeared and popped up in Harold and Kumar and How I Met Your Mother. Now, Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy, Firefly, etc.) has him playing an evil (well, sort of) genius hellbent on joining The Evil League of Evil. His name is Dr. Horrible, and he’s got a Sing-along-blog. It sounds stupid, but it’s awesome (and free to see, for now, on Hulu).

The Evil League of Evil is led by a sort of demented Mr. Ed. The story is both about Dr. Horrible’s efforts to join the league, his fights with Captain Hammer and his love, as ‘Billy,’ for a girl he stalks at the laundromat. The web show is full of great exchanges, like the one that Billy and his paramour have over fro-yo on washing machines:

"I want to be an achiever, like Bad Horse…"
"The Thoroughbred of Sin?"
"I meant Gandhi."

Dr. Horrible does his dastardly deeds by inventing evil devices. We can relate to that. Our lives are filled with devices, but we didn’t think they were evil. Turns out they sort of are. At least, cell-phone rechargers are. Did you know your recharger is wasting power when it’s plugged in, even if your cell phone isn’t attached? We didn’t either. Now that is EVIL. Captain Hammer, save us! Or, you could just unplug the things.
