Store Adore Featured Green Store: Envi
If you haven’t noticed, green is the new black. While politicians, stars and socialites tout the benefits of preserving our world but steadfastly refuse to give up their Learjets, you wonder how you can jump on the bandwagon in earnest. Stop by Envi, Boston’s first eco-fashion boutique. Casually stylish designs made from organic fabrics and renewable resources are showcased in a decor best described as antique country with a spa sensibility. We love the green ceiling hung with a twig-branch chandelier, the hand-painted damask-patterned wallpaper, the bamboo flooring and the fireplace lined with smooth river stones. As for the clothes, the shop showcases an array of cute looks, from ruched tops and drawstring skirts to slim tees and soft and sexy denim from brands like Grace & Cello, Edun and Panda Snack. This stuff is to-dye-for, naturally. And if the only thing eco-friendly to hit your town is the local food co-op, you’re in luck—Envi sells online, too.

I’s on K Street (8.13.08): Climate Change Doesn’t Affect Plants and Animals, Not One Bit

Bum-slapping Bush is hoping to weaken the Endangered Species Act by giving federal agencies the right to decide if a project is dangerous to plants and animals instead of undergoing review by government workers in white lab coats. But the agencies won’t be able to look at the carbon emissions from these projects. Apparently there isn’t a feasible connection between global warming and endangered species, although the polar bears might not agree with that.
Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is becoming more open to a vote on offshore drilling when vacation is over. Maybe this is because the GOP reps have been threatening to spark a shutdown of the federal government if no vote takes place, so they want Pelosi to call everyone back. Geez, guys. Leave the temper tantrums to Zac Efron.
And John McCain, who’s been making a fuss over Barack going on vacay, too. (Not all Republicans are complaining though—Barack’s got a new group of supporters: “Republicans for Obama”!) He’s gone to visit his grandmother in Hawaii. Aw, a family man.
The EPA is working with the National Association of Clean Water Agencies to set beach water quality criteria by 2012. Of course, whether the EPA will actually follow through on the legislation (after they did so well with the Clean Water Act) is unknown.
