Mike Judge follows up “King of the Hill” with the eco-conscious “Goode Family”

Mike Judge who has created such memorable animated series as King of the Hill and Beavis and Butthead launches a new series this fall on ABC called The Goode Family. The Goodes are a family of eco-do-gooders who will spend the series trying to be “good” according to Judge. The family is comprised of father who is an over-educated community college professor, a vegan/activist mother, an adopted South African son, a rebel daughter, and a vegan dog. The series is full of Judge’s characteristic snarky humor as evidenced by the parents continually lamenting that they adopted a white South African instead of a black South African and the vegan dog scours the neighborhood for squirrels to supplement his diet (Vegan Action may not be too happy with that). Judge aims to satirize the fad aspect of going green. Let’s face it, with things like Green Porno, the current cultural landscape is full of things to riff on, but the series might prove to be green-educational as well. And even if it isn’t, where comedy is concerned, Mike Judge definitely is king of the (compost) hill.

JCPenney Just Got a Whole Lot Cooler

Did you hear the news? Good old JCPenney is going green! That’s right, you heard it here first. Now, we haven’t paid attention to JCPenney in eons, except when the above “fake” video advertisement, which alluded to an endorsement of teen sex by the brand, hit our inbox in June. The store of our mallrat youth was endorsing S-E-X? OHMIGOD. However, we’re happy to report that the retailer is back on our radar! Penney’s has begun an eco-friendly initiative to be completed by November. They plan to utilize solar and wind energy to power not just one, but TEN stores AND a distribution center in Reno. Holla back youngin’! This is even better than the new Breakfast Club themed commercials JCPenney’s just released (which we admit we sing along to…every time). We love that Penney’s is going green without requiring us to buy anything. Who would’ve thought? A big box retailer going green just for the good of the earth—we love it!

Donald Trump bails out Ed McMahon

Donald Trump has proven he can be something other than a jackass: he’s buying Ed McMahon’s house so the ex-talk show side-kick can keep living there.

Of course, he held a press conference to make sure the rest of the world knew how nice of a guy he was, isn’t he great, he’s such an awesome dude who really cares about the world! Please don’t forget he exists, America! He still has plenty of casinos and reality shows to push on you!

But while Trump is at least pretending to be a decent human being, we suggest he give McMahon’s house a green renovation. Just throw in some solar panels on the roof, an aerator in the shower, and some fluorescent bulbs on the ceiling.

After all, if you’re grabbing attention for your career by giving impoverished celebrities handouts, why not appeal to the growing environmental movement? Green is green—and it means improving the world, we’ll just tell our friends to lie and say they watched The Apprentice.
