I’s on K Street (10.8.08): Sarah Palin Reads Every Newspaper But Knows No Supreme Court Decisions

I'S ON K STREETBarack Obama and John McCain sparred last night for the second time in the election. The casual format of the debate (with regular Joe Schmoes asking questions) focused on the economy. Apparently Barack has Jell-O tax plans and John is derailing. At least they’ve got new analogies.

Of course, nothing is nearly as entertaining as Sarah Palin. Surprisingly enough, she (kind of) held her own in her square-off with Biden last Thursday, even if the Alaskan hockey mom did throw in a "say it ain’t so, Joe." 24 percent of respondents who said they were undecided before the debate said Palin won. What? That’s kind of pushing it, considering her whole spiel about energy being her "area of expertise," and the whole fact that she’s all about the industry, and not so much about the environment.

But the real entertainment ratings (worthy of The Hills, even) came in when Palin took on Katie Couric—and failed. In epic fashion. According to the Laws of Palinism, Roe v. Wade is a bad decision because it’s something "individual states can best handle," and more specifically, "on a local level." In fact, Palin seems to think all Supreme Court cases should be "handled on a local level." Admittedly, the Supreme Court works kind of slowly, but that doesn’t mean we should take away their jobs or anything. What would James Madison say?

So, does Palin think that the EPA is right for not trying to get rid of a toxic rocket fuel chemical that’s been found in water in 35 states? Of course, the logical thing to do is for each individual city in each county in each state to get rid of it themselves.

The European Union voted yesterday to cut import limits on carbon offsets from developing countries, and to enforce tougher penalties on countries that exceed their greenhouse gas limits. Wait, maybe that’s too comprehensive!
