The other night, I had the pleasure of attending the one year anniversary event of NYC jewelry store Linhardt Designs. Located in the trendy East Village, this small store is packed with beautiful sustainable jewels that are surprisingly reasonable given the measures taken to make sure the earth is protected in the process of creation. Though the event was in honor of creator Lisa Linhardt’s anniversary, patrons were treated to another wonderful thing: the presence of eco-activist and model Summer Rayne Oakes, who was on hand to launch a.d. schwarz’s new collection of bangles harvested from African wood.

Summer, who has traveled to Mozambique, filled me in on the line, which is designed from non-monocultured, sustainably harvested wood. It’s fairly traded with community reinvestment and forest replanting programs, and trust me, it’s gorgeous. I saw the pieces in person on Summer’s arm last night, and they are totally crush-worthy. Linhardt’s online shop is launching soon, so it won’t be long before you can buy all of the artisanal pieces. You can also head to 156 First Avenue to buy them in person. For the time being, Summer’s collection with a.d. schwarz is only available at Linhardt Designs, so scoop them before they hit the big time and everyone’s talking about them – because trust me, everyone will be.

Eva Longoria Parker and Tony Parker Sleep in Style

When your husband is as big, er, as tall, as Tony Parker, you need a big bed. This is precisely why Eva Longoria Parker recently custom ordered a new, huge mattress from the Simmons Natural Care by Danny Seo line. Eva reportedly had to have one after sleeping on a smaller version of the mattress at the Versace mansion in Florida. The couple probably couldn’t wait to get back home to their new comfy bed after attending the Amaury Nolasco & Friends Golf Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico last week. The best part about the Natural Care mattresses is that they aren’t just comfortable. They’re made with materials like natural latex, soy foam, recycled steel and sustainably harvested wood.

Britney Spears Brings Back The Wig, May Be Engaged

Just when we thought Britney had finally gotten her hot mess of a self in check, it appears as though the pop star has reverted back to some of her more peculiar habits. Miss Spears, whose past erratic behavior has often correlated with her choice of hair weave, seems to have retired the pink wig, but was spotted in L.A. sporting a long, brown coif while sucking down a Starbucks frappaccino. Perhaps we are overreacting. After all, the girl has landed herself a non K-Fed like, silver fox boyfriend and just completed a successful U.K. leg of her comeback tour. Britney was even sporting some serious bling on her engagement finger while shopping at the home-y Bed, Bath, & Beyond with her agent/boyfriend/possible fiancé, Jason Trawick. (Perhaps registering for some of their eco-friendly products?) Verdict: Unless Brit-Brit is seen running around gas station bathrooms barefoot once again, we have faith that the craziness is gone for good.

Real World Brooklyn’s Chet Cannon Works the Green Carpet at the Spike Guys Choice Awards
We hang with Spike TV Guys Choice World’s Sexiest Athlete Biba Golic, and find out about Michael Irvin’s role in The Little Giants. World Record eater Joey Chestnut consumes a ton (processed meat-wise), but drives a eco-friendly Prius.
The (aptly named) Ikki twins stop by, as does The Dan Band (from Old School). Mark Duplass and Josh Leonard talk about straight guys making gay porn for their upcoming comedy film Humpday.
Asher Roth flows…Beanstockd style. Spazmatic and Beanstockd’s Chet Cannon partake in an epic battle of bowtie one-upmanship. We find out from champion eater Kobayashi’s translator who has the bigger appetite for dirty innuendos, and Fred Willard and Beanstockd show some mutual love.

The Greenhorne Report (6.29.09): Jamie Foxx & BET Honor MJ; Kendra Wilkinson Marries a Football Player

The BET Awards morphed into a tribute to Michael Jackson. Jamie Foxx declared that it didn’t matter what the King of Pop looked like, it mattered what he sounded like, and then he moonwalked across the stage while wearing a sparkly glove to illustrate his point. Janet Jackson appeared and spoke on behalf of the family. RIP Mike.
Billy Mays, King of Informercials has passed away. The shiller of household products such as Oxiclean was found dead in his home on Sunday. He was 50 years old.
Former Playmate and Girl Next Door, Kendra Wilkinson tied the knot with NFL player, Hank Baskett of the Philadelphia Eagles. Congrats to the happy couple and my condolences to Hugh Hefner.
While President Obama lauded the passage of the House’s energy bill last week, he cautioned against coming off as too protectionist. The bill contains a provision that would enforce trade penalties on countries that do not comply with global warming pollution restrictions.
Ponzi schemer, Bernie Madoff is to be sentenced Monday. The prosecution is hoping he will get 150 years which would ensure his placement in a maximum security penitentiary. The 71-year old is expected to die behind bars.

Lily Allen, Lindsay Lohan and Cory Feldman Celebrate Michael Jackson

This weekend celebrities all over the world paid their respects to Michael Jackson. In England, songstress Lily Allen took the stage at the Glastonbury Music Festival sporting one glove in homage to M.J. Over 3,000 miles away in Las Vegas, a local vagrant Lindsay Lohan celebrated her 23rd birthday at the MGM Grand. Lindsay spent the day poolside with friends, even taking time out of BBM-ing Samantha Ronson and changing outfits a record five times to strike a pose in honor of the King of Pop. 80’s heartthrob and eco-activist, Cory Feldman, dedicated his band’s off the grid gig in Los Angeles to his former friend. R.I.P. Michael. You will be missed – and by more than just D-list celebrities.

Kristen Stewart Can Sing, Twi-hards Rejoice

Diehard Twilight fans, or, as we like to call them, Twi-hards, have been insisting for some time that Kristen Stewart deserved the role of Joan Jett in the upcoming biopic The Runaways. No matter what anyone said, they insisted she’d be a great singer when the time came. We didn’t listen, mostly because we think K.Stew is boring and not that great of an actress.
Then came the video above. After some intense googling, we came across it on YouTube – it’s from Into the Wild, in which Kristen strummed alongside Emile Hirsch (what a hottie). We’re pretty convinced that’s really her singing one of our all time fave tunes, Angel from Montgomery. The girl isn’t half bad! She might just pull off a believable Jett! It almost makes us (gasp!) respect K.Stew. Now if only we could get her to trade those high-waisted leather jeans for some vegan ones, we’d be cool. We’d be all for this pair of Stella McCartney cut-out leggings…

The Clotheshorse (6.26.09): Preview Vogue’s ‘The September Issue’; Kate Moss’ Paper Doll Playtime

The Cut Blog thinks The September Issue might just be the antidote to the anti-Anna Devil Wears Prada. Watch it above. It’s addictive. Feared, Revered and totally worth the price of a movie ticket in New York.
Emma Watson, star of Harry Potter and recently revered fashionista, is having the best week ever. She’s on the cover of Teen Vogue looking like I aspire to look on my greatest days. She’s also rumored to be collaborating with Karl Lagerfeld on a line of clothing to benefit Unicef. I’m guessing that’s just a rumor, but given that Emma’s the fall face of Burberry, it’s possible that a collaboration with the British line is in her future. Watson-designed raincoats? I could dig it.
The latest designer collab? Missoni and Converse. It seems the two brands are teaming up to create some zig-zaggy kicks. The shoes will hit stores in the Spring.
Looking to scoop up sustainable duds? Check out Melissa. One word: PLASTICS. The Brazilian company creates pieces that are developed, fabricated and distributed with “a rigid control to their life cycle.” All pieces can be recycled. Two points for anyone who gets the quote above!
Still playing with dolls? I’d play with these paper replicas of Kate Moss and Agyness Deyn any day! London artist I Love Mel has recaptured the joys of childhood by creating recyclable odes to her favorite Brits. TOO FUN!
Swedish brand Acne’s Spring 2010 pre-collection lookbook has me hunkering for a DIY. I think I might just die without an oversized leather bowtie. Of course, I’ll be doing mine out of vegan leather.
Rihanna faced Chris Brown in court on Monday – you know, the guy who almost strangled her to death. Her PR people thought it good timing to send out a press release about what RiRi wore to court. In case we wanted to buy the earrings she wore to see Brown cop a plea.
Nicole Richie has finally seen the light! She’s expanding her House of Harlow 1960 collection to include shoes and clothes. I covet every single piece Richie wears – her bohemian chic look is timeless, despite what Vogue might say. Now we’ll be able to own a piece! Here’s hoping the price points for the new collection are as low as those of the accessories.
Patricia Field is said to be pulling out of the Sex and the City sequel. Apparently, SJP decided to transform Carrie from fashionista to recessionista. This doesn’t sit well with Field, who claims, “I don’t use the recession as a reference for my creativity.” Harumph!
The shortlist for the INNOVATION award (an initiative set up by the Ethical Fashion Forum) has been released. Rumor has it judging will be extremely tough this year – they’re looking for designers who are “set to make a difference for people and the environment.” Last year’s winner, Christopher Raeburn, designed the jacket at right.
Season Two of The Rachel Zoe Project will air on Bravo on August 25th. I have witch vibes already.
Look at Rob Pattinson with other male celebs hairdos. He looks quite fugly with Zefron’s locks.
Forbes has just announced that Elle is selling more ad pages than Vogue. The highly respected fashion glossy helmed by ice queen Anna Wintour has been chastised recently for it’s choice of cover girls (Blake Lively, Sienna Miller). Perhaps this is the reason for the decrease in ad sales?

Beanstockd Classes Up the Global Green Millennium Awards
Beanstockd.com graced the green carpet (always a bonus backdrop to rock some recycled vintage and vegan stilettos) for some casual celebrity conversation at Global Green’s Millennium Awards in Santa Monica, CA.
Watch our videos to view the good, clean fun we had talking about the planet and the future with some attractive environmental leadership from the biz.
Star-friendly and ultra-eco org, Global Green, hosted their annual Millennium Awards to honor environmental leadership and positive social change in the public and the media; recognizing such efforts as reducing water use in green building projects, and social entrepreneurship within the entertainment industry.
We caught up with CEO of Global Green, Matt Peterson; the Millennium Award winners; and a round of elegantly dressed (and eloquently spoken) celebrities. In tribute to Global Green’s Green Schools Initiative, we asked what bright green insight attendees have gleaned from the kids of our planet Earth.
Austin Nichols of One Tree Hill (we recognized him from a short-lived stint on John from Cincinnati) told us riding his scooter makes him a lot less angry than driving a car through L.A. He hopes we can stoke some kids to “get revolutionary” and make their own green demands from their schools, parents, etc. since they are exponentially greener than older generations.
Luke Perry, kept it easy by warming us up with a tap dance, and went on to explain how he and his kids (who keep him in check) do everything they can to stay green in 90210, and usually the solution is simplification.
As Matt Petersen, president and CEO of Global Green noted, “all Americans can do something about climate change, and protect our most precious natural resource – our kids. . . by creating green schools and healthy classrooms.”
Winner of the Founders Award and founder of Ecofabulous, Zem Joaquin, (in a Mr Larkin milk dress – a designer we’ve seen before on the Global Green circuit of the eco-conscious and fashion forward) spoke to us about how fashion can become more sensible to sustainability, and also more accessible, even in this economic climate. For example, milk fiber, and many other sustainable fabric alternatives such as hemp and bamboo have been around for ages, while we still recognize chemically bleached cotton as “the fabric of our lives.”
Inspired by her own green child-rearing ways, the idea of Ecofabulous was born into the blogosphere. Look for alternative green fashion and lifestyle suggestions at EcoFabulous.com and more fabulous green goodness from Zem.
Looking sharp as ever, and even dreamier in person – Adrien Grenier reminded us that school is cool, and to listen up to kids- they are making major waves these days. He also encourages engaging in the green movement simply by talking about it – increasing your awareness and involvement. So, we talked about it. Personally, he likes to take cold showers because of its invigorating health benefits and an inevitable shift to shorter showers. He keeps it clean, healthy and actively aware. All you have to do is “open your mind and your heart.”
We just heard word he is trying to green up the act of the Entourage set – keeping the convo alive wherever he goes.
Rosario Dawson, radiant in a vintage 80’s gold mini, made it known to the press that women’s health and; in turn, children’s health is directly connected to the prosperity of the planet. As she said during the awards reception, “It is about us finding each other again [. . . ] Environmental and economic recovery must be based in human recovery.”
Spoken with confidence and integrity (and a warm, friendly smile), we took note to look for her shining light on more of these important Earth-wise issues in the future. (In vintage, of course, because re-using is always better than buying something new – in general, in life.)
Steve Connell and Sekou “the misfit” – young, heartful hip hop poets echoed a call to action to stand up and speak out in some swift spoken word poetry. “The student’s the teacher/ The time is now.” Emphasizing that its all about reaching kids with honesty and urgency in a healthy environment and classroom, Steve and Sekou creatively exposed America’s issues of passivity; and also keep an eye on the future with heart, soul, and sincerity.
As always, we are glad to see and be a part of the ever-expanding circle of friendship and support within Hollywood (and increasingly all over the country) when it comes to bettering our blue planet. For the future, for the kids, we can all expect some incredible invention and creative collaboration to keep our planet refreshed with the next generation of inspiration, and the next. Keep your eyes and mind open, and your showers cold.
