Challenges in dealing with the Russian leadership await President Obama during his trip this week. While Dmitri Medvedev as president, holds the highest political position in Russia, many believe former President Vladimir Putin really runs the country. Obama faces an obstacle course in showing each leader respect while negotating with the one actually in power.

An eleventh-hour meeting will be held on Tuesday by the Major Economies Forum to discuss carbon emissions. The meeting comes before the G-8 summit, July 8th-10th, and aims to reconcile rich and developing nations’ differences over long-term global warming targets.
