Woo baby, do I have a lot to tell you! Following my extremely exciting encounter with Twilight star Kellan Lutz, I headed back to the tents just a little less than bright eyed and bushy tailed. Informr Bean and I spent our morning downing coffee and taking in the Georges Chakra show.
While there were no real celebs in sight, we took some pictures of Alex and Simon of The Real Housewives of New York, who were seated next to fellow RH star Jill Zarin. Chakra’s collection was a little less than my favorite, to say the least. It featured bright colors and futuristic details – but it was too prom appropriate and too space agey for it to be at all wearable.
Following Chakra’s “Jessica McClintock meets the Jetsons” show, we took a break until the late afternoon, when we returned to get in line for Christian Siriano. To say that the lines for Siriano were crazy is an understatement. Much to our surprise and dismay, over two hundred people, ourselves included, were shut out of the show due to lack of space. We were able to watch the show from the tents, and it seems it was business as usual – layers, color, etc.
The next morning, we met up with photographer extraordinaire, Caroline Tobias, downtown for the Toni Maticevski show. Maticevski, who showed at a smaller venue, The Altman Building, gave us a cohesive collection of exquisite princess gowns and painterly prints. He adorned his gowns and svelte pencil skirts with excessive tulle flowers, proving that romance can be both tough and sentimental all at once. His was my favorite collection so far!
Following Toni, we headed back up to the tents, where we caught Thuy’s Spring 2010 collection. There, I obsessed over zippered details, cutout backs and cropped motorcycle jackets in to-die-for peachy shades. Designer Thuy Diep never fails to impress me, and her bejeweled jacket made me feel all warm and mushy inside.
Next, we got in line for Hervé Léger, only to get shut out yet again. Informr Bean was beside herself as Max is her favorite designer of all time. Complaints aside, we heard Max Azria showed his signature bandage dresses with more patterns than usual and a decidedly muted color palate. Sitting front row? Amanda Bynes, bandage dress addict; as well as Hilary Duff and Mischa Barton, who sparked a paparazzi feeding frenzy.
Since we couldn’t be inside the show, we headed out back to make like the paps and snag some shots of famous folk. Between Leger and DVF, we caught Blake Lively, Michelle Trachtenberg, Mischa, Hilary, Amanda, Marissa Miller, Alessandra Ambrosio, and a few other people who seemed to think they were famous but whom we couldn’t place.
We also happened to catch the one and only Kelly Kapowski / Tiffani Amber Thiessen coming out of the Rebecca Taylor show, and even saw Gabrielle Union signing autographs – she was lovely! Most importantly, however, we saw Rachel Zoe. We died. It was bananas. And then some. I even caught a photo of the back of her hair! Those are some fabulous extensions.
We retired early last night, skipping out on the Custo Barcelona and Vassilios Kostetsos shows. Custo meant lots of lights and crazy patterns and detailing. Wearable? Maybe not. But certainly insanely cool. Kostetsos showed some potential red carpet gowns.
Keep in mind, this is only a snippet of what went on in New York this weekend. Last night was also the MTV Video Music Awards – and there are dozens upon dozens of shows we didn’t attend. In the meantime, keep your eye on Maticevski and your mouse on my Twitter. More to come tomorrow!

I had so much fun with you all! Best weekend ever! (also most exhausting, but whatevs)
Remember when we were in the hotel elevator and that girl was talking about the Georges Chakra show and saying she loved it and I turned around and said, “Really?! You actually liked that? We thought it was Jessica McClintock meets the Jetsons!” (totally your term that I stole, but oh so fitting) and then she did a 180 and was like, “Yeah, it was a bit too futuristic.” HA!
And remember that crazy lady who made everyone hold her baby? That poor little girl is so getting sold on ebay as soon as fashion week’s over. I just hope Gabrielle Union recognizes and adopts her.
[...] off to an afternoon of Toni Maticevski, one of my personal favorites. Last season, Maticevski was my absolute favorite collection, and this season, I’m sad to say I wasn’t all that impressed. We went backstage here as [...]
