The Clotheshorse (10.30.09): Models Strip for Climate Change; Lady Gaga To Appear on Gossip Girl November 16

Fashionista by Ashley David - Click for more from The ClotheshorseFashionista dug up this video of models taking it off for climate change. In it, the girls strip down to their skivvies to talk about saving our planet. The piece is from 350.org. Hey, it’s better them them taking it off for shits and giggles!

I’m constantly searching for a cute and functional way to tote around my darling laptop, which pretty much sticks to me like a shadow. At least, someone is making good-looking computer cases! Mulberry, maker of all bags chic yet functional, has teamed up with Apple for an accessories line set to hit stores some time in November. The collection includes bags and sleeves made to fit MacBooks, MacBook Pros, iPhones and iPods. It’s not cheap, but it’s oh so worth it, right? Santa baby…

Lindsay LohanGreat news! Fashion’s Night Out will return on September 9th, 2010. All hail Anna!

Lindsay Lohan actually showed up for her interview with the Times UK. She tells them she doesn’t read the reviews of her (horribly reviewed) Ungaro collection, and that she knows she’s a target for such criticism. She’s not, as previously reported, working for free.

Ladies (and makeup wearing gents), we may have a new favorite eco-friendly makeup line. Enter W3ll People (pronounced well people) new line of organic toxin free cosmetics.

In this month’s Allure magazine, eco-friendly detergent The Laundress provided tips on how to wash sweaters and other special-care items. We’re big fans of their products. Check them out here.

NecklushMacy’s is sick of letting Target’s Go International collections have all the fun – so they’re hoping on the collaboration bandwagon. They’ll be focusing on men’s lines, and calling their effort Threads & Heirs. First up? Ruffian!

Gaga is heading to Gossip Girl. Sneak peek here.

At 17, model Karlie Kloss, who’s known for her runway death stare, is a force to be reckoned with. But has she achieved supermodel status yet? She’s in 23 images in October’s Vogue.

Talk about a triple threat! Eco-friendly, Brooklyn-made Necklush (left) is a necklace, scarf and cowl neck all in one. Get yours on Etsy.

Portland isn’t the only city going sustainable — Chicago’s first ever all sustainable show Vert Couture took place this past weekend. The evening of “fall fashion and environmental responsibility” produced gorgeous goods from Mountains of the Moon. Check out the photos at Ecouterre!

McQueenThe insane Alexander McQueen shoes from the Spring 2010 runway hit the offices of Vogue UK, and they’re 12 inches high instead of the reported 10. The gals tried to walk in them and barely made it a few steps. How, then, did the models make it down the runway? Seriously, I’m stumped.

We’ve got a first look at Sonia Rykiel’s lingerie line for H&M. Funny how people shunned LiLo for heart shaped pasties, but Rykiel can get away with putting flowers in the nipple area of her bras. Also, won’t these look weird under shirts? Am I missing something?

We’re newly obsessed with eco-fashion line Thieves by Sonja den Elzen. This is luxe sustainable style at its best — made with organic wool, cotton, bamboo and cruelty-free peace silk, Thieves is a sophisticated line with bold touches like big shoulders and overly slouchy dresses.

The Clotheshorse (Special Report): Everlasting Hope Educates Us

Everlasting Hope

Fashionista by Ashley David - Click for more from The ClotheshorseNext up in my apparent miniseries of sustainable designer chats is Ria Giuliano-Thomas of the newly created line Everlasting Hope. Ria, a native Australian who now lives in Brooklyn, was kind enough to talk shop with me on the phone a few days ago, educating me on everything from why Aussies are naturally green to why her mother and husband are her eco-idols.

Ria started Everlasting Hope, which is in its first season of production, with her husband/business partner, James Thomas aka Eco Hustler. Ria, who has been designing for years, says she’s always incorporated a green aspect into whatever she’s doing at the time, but that it was her dream to do a line that was all sustainable. Her goal was to create something that was not only eco-friendly but also aesthetically pleasing and fashion forward. She admits that it’s a difficult task, and that many people in the industry simply aren’t thinking about the waste they’re creating. One day, however, she hopes that being eco-conscious will be the norm.

Everlasting HopeThough her husband does all the graphic and print designing, when it comes to the clothing design process, Ria is a one-woman show. She tells me she starts with an idea in her head of not only what the piece will look like, but who will wear it and how they will feel. Next, she sources her fabrics, works with the pattern makers, and does the fittings herself. She jokes that if she could, she’d have the pattern maker and sample makers “under [her] bed, right next to [her]” – she’s clearly all about being hands on.

Speaking of pieces, Ria says a must have from the line is their draped jersey dress. Her aim is to make pieces that are at once simple and unique, so “that you don’t have to think too much about it.” Ria sports her own line regularly, and also names Bird, Kaight and of course Barneys as some of her go-to stores.

When it comes to eco-idols, the first person Ria names is her mother. Growing up in Australia, she claims, taught her the lifestyle by which she now lives. She was raised on organic food in the country, where she says there is (get this!) no litter on the ground. This, she says, is because Australia is so dependent on the environment. They take care of what they rely on. This has in turn influenced Ria to do the same in her everyday life — to work to take care of the world around her in any way she can, whether it be reducing waste or designing good looking sustainable clothing.

Last but certainly not least, Ria imparted on me some tips for helping green the world one step at a time. Her suggestions? Simple things like using energy saving light bulbs, drying clothes outdoors instead of using the dryer, walking instead of driving, using low flow shower heads and toilets, buying reusable bags, and even making your own beauty treatments. Like I said, the lady is a one woman show.

Pumpkin Picking With The Stars: Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes & Suri Search for the Perfect Gourd
Friday October 30th 2009, 10:03 am

TomKat and Suri

It’s that time of year, when celebrities pack up their kiddies and parade them around local pumpkin patches for all the photogs to see. Last weekend, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes took Suri in search of the great pumpkin at Brooksby Farm in Massachusetts, Chris Noth, Tara Wilson and their son, Orion were picking out just the right carving pumpkin at Mr. Bones, David Beckham brought his sons to the Underwood Family Farm in Moorpark, CA and Tori Spelling, Dean McDermott and their kids, Stella and Liam, were also pumpkin shopping in Woodland Hills, CA. Even though it would be easy to debate whether these outings are legit family fun or easy photo ops, we’ll give these stars the benefit of the doubt. After all, picking your own from an organic farm is the best way to get your fruits and veggies. Pumpkin Patches and More is a great online guide to finding farms in every state. Its not too late to get out there and pick your own apples, squash, and pumpkins — just watch out for any paparazzi that might be lurking around!

Hailey Glassman Talks About Jon Gosselin and His “Mantrums”
Friday October 30th 2009, 9:50 am

Jon Gosselin and Hailey Glassman

For those not up on Glassman/Gosselin speak, that’s a male version of a tantrum, and apparently, Jon’s been throwing lots of them lately. Hailey Glassman, his 22-year-old girlfriend, claims that while she’s in love with Jon, he’s emotionally abusive. Says Glassman: “He’ll call me and take his anger out on me…He has mantrums… I’ll cry and say, ‘why are you being so mean to me?’” She acknowledges that her life has changed for the worse – you know, now she gets threats. People call her a fat whore! Then she cries herself to sleep, which is probably what we’d do if we woke up one day and realized we were dating a guy who looks like he has down syndrome and who definitely has a serious pot belly along with an addiction to trashy Ed Hardy clothing.

We think it’s time for Hailey to kick Jon to the curb. It’s not like he’s bringing anything to the table besides drama. She needs to wash that man right outta her hair, and we’d suggest doing it with the organic soaps from skinnyskinny. This organic and eco-friendly bath, body and home store is about to open its first store at 129 Roebling Street in Brooklyn. Might we suggest Glassman hightail it to the BK?

Citizen Beanstockd (10.29.09): How Andre Agassi Got Away With His Crystal Meth Use and Mullet Pride
Thursday October 29th 2009, 4:27 pm

Andre Agassi

Jason Lee as Brodie Bruce in MallratsHey Boys and Girls, it’s gonna be a quick one this week. I had a late night of Halloween prep which I’m not even done with. We’ll get back to that, but first let’s talk about some current events.

Pop Pop SnappersRevelations! Andre Agassi tried to pull a Mackenzie Phillips and it wasn’t even close. In a new tell-all book, the former “rebel” of professional tennis drops a couple of bombs that are more like firecrackers. Actually, they’re more like those popper things you buy from carnies at parades. At any rate, the most shocking admission was that Agassi was hooked on crystal meth for a year which resulted in a failed drug test in 1997. He was able to avoid disciplinary action by telling tennis officials he drank from a glass that was contaminated with traces of the stimulant. He also writes that he hated tennis, but played for 30 years because his father pushed him to. My favorite confession, however, is that because the now completely bald Agassi loved his mullet so much, he wore a toupee during the French Open to hide the fact that there was only a party in the back and no business in the front.

Halloween mail bag time!

Nadya “Octo-Mom” Suleman: Bacon Bits, what are your Halloween plans this year? If I dress eight of my fourteen babies up as the Gosselin kids, will you be Jon?

Paul BunyanGreat question. The answer is no. In September, I thought I had settled on being Jon “Douchebag in a Hardy Tee” Gosselin, but it became increasingly evident that he was going to be a popular choice this year, so I had to nix that idea. From there I turned to my safety ‘stume: Eddie Munster. Funny, traditional, kinda boring—maybe next year. Finally, after much deliberation and many a sleepless night, I settled on a Halloween costume that is not unfamiliar to this site. This year for All Hallow’s Eve, I will dress as the legendary deforester of American folklore, Paul Bunyan.

Nancy Pelosi: I’m trying to be environmentally responsible this Halloween, so I’ve decided to go trick-or-treating early and then hand out the candy I pick up to the kids who ring my doorbell. What are you going to do to be green this Halloween?

Wow, chintzy AND green. That’s not exactly what we had in mind all those times we encouraged you to repurpose, but I’m not here to crush your spirit or tell you how to live your life. For my contribution to environmentalism this year, I’m going to carve Al Gore’s face into a pumpkin. Then some time next week, I’ll see how far I can shot put the rotting remains down the street. Don’t worry, I’ll clean it up.

That’s all she wrote! Have a nice Halloween everybody! Now If you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to putting razor blades in these miniature Charleston Chews.

Orlando Bloom and David Beckham Among Celebrities in VIP Section at U2 Show in Pasadena

Orlando Bloom

The mask, handed out by U2, is Aung San Suu Kyi. She’s a wrongfully imprisoned pro-democracy leader in Burma. That’s the same country whose leaders dragged their feet on accepting international aid after a devastating cyclone last year which ultimately ended in thousands of unnecessary deaths.

The stars came out for Sunday might’s U2 concert in Pasadena, CA. Among the A-Listers spotted in the VIP area were Orlando Bloom, Paris Hilton, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Cam Gigandet Ginnifer Goodwin, Ryan Phillippe, David Beckham, Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford, just to name a few. This isn’t the first show on the 360 tour that has brought out big name celebs. At the Boston show last month, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz and Katie Holmes were all seated in a VIP section at the back of Gillette Stadium and were ushered out before the concert ended to beat the crowds. U2 has done everything in their power to offset the environmental impact of the tour. They even hired the greening company MusicMatters to help them cut emissions and other damaging side effects of staging the world’s largest rock concert. MusicMatters has helped them make several changes including having tour staff use canteens rather than disposable water bottles and encouraging venues to offer discount parking for hybrid vehicles.

New Jack Johnson DVD “En Concert” Supports Environmental Efforts
Tuesday October 27th 2009, 10:34 am

Jack Johnson

Singer, songwriter, surfer, and sexpot, Jack Johnson, is now adding filmmaker to his ultra impressive resume. Jack’s 2008 “Sleep Through The Static” tour is chronicled in the En Concert DVD, which hit stores Monday (and iTunes) today. While on the road, Johnson took every step possible to reduce his carbon footprint — using recycled materials, riding in biodiesel-powered buses, and taking advantage of renewable energy sources. As if that weren’t enough, all of the proceeds from the DVD’s sale will go to the Kokua Hawaii Foundation and the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation, which support environmental, art, and music education around the globe. Take note John Mayer. This is how real soft rockers do it.

Full-frontal: Little Levi Johnston Will Also Pose for Playgirl
Tuesday October 27th 2009, 10:27 am

Levi Johnston

Levi Johnston must really think highly of himself, and by himself, we mean his member. Think about it — not only did his member manage to impregnate Bristol Palin, daughter of former potential VP Sarah Palin, but now it’s so famous that it’s garnering Levi magazine covers. Okay, so Playgirl isn’t exactly the same as, say, Vanity Fair, but hey, all publicity is good publicity, right? Levi’s little Johns(t)on is really doing well for itself! Sources say they’re “90% sure” that the budding media darling will go for full-frontal nudity during the shoot, which should hit newsstands in time for the holidays.

We wonder how Palin feels about this one. Lord knows she doesn’t like that her daughter’s ex-fiancé has gotten so much attention. But hey, when you have a body sculpted by moose meat, who can resist? Speaking of moose meat, we’d prefer tofu to doing our own hunting any day. As a fellow beanie put it, this whole thing is eco-friendly because it makes us green…with nausea. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t buy that issue of Playgirl, or (more likely) keep it eco-friendly by just googling the photos.

The Greenhorne Report (10.26.09): Paparazzi Causes Brad Pitt Fender Bender; Paris Hilton Gets Her Jewels Back

Brad Pitt and the offending pap

THE GREENHORNE REPORTEveryone’s still going crazy about the H1N1 virus, otherwise known as THE SWINE FLU!!! and lining up for vaccines. Only problem is, there aren’t enough vaccines to go around. The vaccines’ manufacturers have not been able to meet the federal government’s projections. The virus is not growing fast or strong enough in the eggs used to create the vaccine. Due to the shortage, the federal government isn’t making any more predictions. Get it while you still can!

Come on America! According to the Pew opinion poll, only 57% of Americans believe that the climate is changing. That’s down from 70%, and in the past 3 years, the number of people who don’t believe in climate change has doubled! Apparently the melting polar icecaps and the hole in the ozone over Australia mean nothing.

Paris Hilton no longer needs a new BFF. The LAPD has returned her jewelry, stolen from her house a year ago. Her reality TV show might bring in money, but these diamonds, worth over $2 million, are her real best friends.

After a run-in with a paparazzo on a motorcycle, Brad Pitt emerged unscathed. Good thing he was wearing a helmet! Meanwhile, Angelina bakes cakes for the kiddies. Well, not bake exactly, she buys them ready made and puts a bunch together. That’s the same thing right?

Former Smiths front-man, Morrissey, collapsed onstage Saturday. He had just finished their hit, "This Charming Man," when he fell and had to be rushed to the hospital. They released him Sunday, but there’s no information yet on his condition.

Ke$ha Goes Dumpster Diving in Munich
Monday October 26th 2009, 11:26 am

Pop singer, Kesha Sebert, better known by her stage name, Ke$ha took the term “recycled clothing” to another level on a recent promotional trip to Germany. In the ultimate eco-friendly move, the TiK ToK singer went digging through a dumpster for a new outfit, later taking to her official twitter to say, “diggin thru the trash in munich” and later,“GERMANY!!!! you have cashmere in your garbage!!!” Lesson to be learned: thrift stores are so 2000 and late. If you really want to add to your wardrobe while still being environmentally conscious, head to your nearest trash can.
