Alicia Silverstone

Today, Alicia Silverstone (she’ll always be Cher to us) released her first book, The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet, in which she details her philosophy on a healthy and ethical lifestyle. Horowitz Silverstone, who has been a very vocal vegan for over 10 years, hopes that her book will encourage others to adopt a plant-based diet. While we at Beanstockd are all for the greenery, Alicia seems to be way harsh on meat eaters, which makes us rethink taking her advice in the first place. To quote Tai, “Why should I listen to you, anyway? You’re a virgin who can’t drive.”

Preachy vegans and vegetarians like her give us a bad reputation. There’s a reason humans have canine teeth. I’ve been vegetarian over 1/3 of my life, but I don’t feel the need to get on my soap box and chastise carnivores.
(and I’m usually the first one to jump up there and shoot people down)

informrbean, Why is writing a book about a topic being preachy? I think it is called writing a book about a topic. Yours sounds like the kind of statement that usually comes from pro-agribusiness posters. If you haven’t, read T. Colin Campbell or any basic evolutionary text to read about the so-called “canine teeth.”

Americans today have a stage-one omnivore digestive system and a stage-four diet. We are not designed to eat massive amounts of meats and this has been proven. These studies are also being overwhelmed in the media by the dollars of the animal agribusiness.

If you don’t want to listen to Silverstein, fine, do real research.

You sound like you aren’t getting enough iron. Eat a hot dog.
