At best this is only an ad hoc deterrent that won't instill any lasting change (unless one of them accidentally cops a harpoon to the cranium). That bruise on my leg in the photo above is where the Japanese fishermen attacked me an hour previously with a 8ft pole, while we were doing a peaceful paddle out ceremony to commemorate the death of the worlds best 'surfers' (dolphins) killed in Taiji bay.
