We Have a New First Son-in-Law

It’s wedding season! First Daughter Jenna Bush married Henry Hager, the son of a big Virginia Republican, on Saturday at the family ranch in Crawford, TX. There would be no crashing of these nuptials. (Secret Service. Consequences.)

Instead of the pomp and circumstance of a White House wedding, the 26-year-old public school teacher wanted things to be more “organic and natural” with an outdoor ceremony and a color palette set by the Texas landscape.

Interesting facts: The wedding parties were each 14 deep. Oscar De La Renta did the wedding gown as well as Laura Bush’s mom-dress. Henry, 30 and a UVA B-schooler will be working for Constellation Energy in Maryland.

Even on the day after his daughter got married, President Bush gets no breaks. He woke up this morning to a big eco-slap in the face from The New York Times. An editorial entitled “Rethinking Ethanol” criticizes his vigorous support of corn-based biofuels, as well as the cronyism he enjoys within the Environmental Protection Agency.

Best wishes, Jenna. Congrats, Henry. Happy Mother’s Day, Moms!
