I think the Boston Tea Party is only enlightened in retrospect.
In fact, the whole of rebellion, even for our beloved nation, was a rather sordid affair where people were publicly tortured and humiliated if they disagreed with the tide of political upheaval.

As to whether the vandals are more decent than the ads… I think drawing a cock in the mouth of the girl on the poster (gotta love long prepositional phrases) is hardly…conservative.

Racy ads are a great way to get noticed, and I think it’s a sign of the times: similar ads have been the norm in Europe for decades. Hopefully this campaign will help stop them from snickering at us puritanical Americans…

Wow, I am impressed by the power of your intellect.

You are seriously claiming the ads are not racy? I am confident that CW would be disappointed, since they clearly want to be racy. They are, after all, promoting their own show as “every parent’s nightmare,” and “a nasty piece of work.”

And despite your attempt at ESP, I do not watch Joel Osteen or the 700 Club. I have no interest in banning same sex marriage.

In fact, I am someone who can have a reasonable conversation about these topics because I agree with Robert Frost who said, “Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self confidence.”

You might try getting some of that education.

You are a pathetic loser! These Gossip Girl ads are neither racy nor indecent. There is no nudity, nor any curse words scrolled throughout the ad. Who do you think you are?

Wait, I can probably answer that one. You’re the type of guy who sits in his house on the weekend and jerks off to Joel Osteen sermons.

You’re also the type of guy who pushes for a ban on same sex marriage, then gets caught soliciting sex from some random guy in airport bathroom.

My kids will watch shows like Gossip Girl and grow up to be normal healthy kids, while your kids can go ahead and watch the 700 club, and grow up to star in snuff films.

I guarantee I see you on an episode of Dateline’s “To Catch a Predator” series trying to molest little girls. You make John Mark Carr look like someone with an innate natural charisma!

Unfortunately, the terms conformity, standards of propriety, and morality go right over my apathetic head. I know but two standards of society–the finer things in life should never be treated so barbarously and one can never be too thin.

As for being a British nationalist, I am not. However, I have suggested on many occasions that we reunite with England and restore power to the monarchy. The Queen in full regalia is simply a vision and after our extreme makeover, Camilla would come out looking like Kate Moss.

So, the marketing campign for CW is based on the show being indecent–breaking recognized standards of society. The critics highlighted in the campaign are demonstrating a general societal disdain for a show entirely about teen sex.

As for the Boston Tea Party being uncivilized, I guess it depends on whether you’re a conservative, British nationalist or a more modern Westerner. On one hand, the Tea Party did have a group of people taking the law into their own hands, and that is uncivilized, by definition. But on the other hand, these men fought a despotic government and helped America develop a much more liberal, democratic government, and that is by definition civilized.

You make using mass transit a prerequisite for employment, and many liberals would love to make mass transit the only viable option for nearly everyone. And then CW plasters these posters, designed to be blatantly offensive to some and attractively offensive to others, at these mass transit stops. The old liberal adage was, “If you don’t like it, change the channel.” But, that can’t be done with these CW ads. So, you’re asking parents, who finds these ads to be their worst nightmare–just as CW wants–to just sit back and take it? Perhaps vandalizing these ads is the 21st century version of the Boston Tea Party. It’s decent people standing up and saying, in the words of the famous rock song, “We’re not gonna take it…anymore.”
