Ah The Olympics. We enjoyed the spectacular opening ceremonies (but don’t even want to think about how much it cost), as well as NBA player Yao Ming carrying the Chinese flag with the young earthquake survivor. Yao Ming has been made the first "Environmental Champion" of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). Through this post, Yao hopes to raise awareness about environmental issues.

While President Bush is having fun with the athletes in China, including cavorting with the beach volleyball team, Russia’s been attacking cities in the former Soviet republic of Georgia. The democratic state is a little too cozy with "the West" and the Kremlin isn’t having it. With casualties estimated to be in the thousands, another super power proves that it’s really good at killing people.
In more sad news, Chicago comedian Bernie Mac passed away at the age of 50 due to complications from pneumonia. Singer Isaac Hayes also died this weekend. He was 65.
The kid is not his son! John Edwards’ babymama mistress is refusing a DNA test, which probably means the kid is not his. Who wouldn’t want to claim the paternity of a dude as loaded, and eco-friendly as John Edwards.
On a happier note, Clay Aiken has just become a father! Take that Perez! (and John Edwards)
