Bum-slapping Bush is hoping to weaken the Endangered Species Act by giving federal agencies the right to decide if a project is dangerous to plants and animals instead of undergoing review by government workers in white lab coats. But the agencies won’t be able to look at the carbon emissions from these projects. Apparently there isn’t a feasible connection between global warming and endangered species, although the polar bears might not agree with that.
Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is becoming more open to a vote on offshore drilling when vacation is over. Maybe this is because the GOP reps have been threatening to spark a shutdown of the federal government if no vote takes place, so they want Pelosi to call everyone back. Geez, guys. Leave the temper tantrums to Zac Efron.
And John McCain, who’s been making a fuss over Barack going on vacay, too. (Not all Republicans are complaining though—Barack’s got a new group of supporters: “Republicans for Obama”!) He’s gone to visit his grandmother in Hawaii. Aw, a family man.
The EPA is working with the National Association of Clean Water Agencies to set beach water quality criteria by 2012. Of course, whether the EPA will actually follow through on the legislation (after they did so well with the Clean Water Act) is unknown.
