This week, the inauguration of our 44th President has been marking history right down to the DC party circuit. Thus, where else would Beanstockd be but down in our nation’s capital to raise our glasses to our boy, Barack! Beanstockd had the privilege of partying with DC’s environmental big wigs at the first annual Green Inaugural Ball at the Andrew W. Mellon auditorium in Washington, DC. Special guests in attendance included Hayden Panettiere, model Summer Rayne Oakes, Graham Hill (founder of Treehugger), and a special performance by Wyclef Jean.

Among a long list of green measures taken at this event was the selection of a venue located on the same block as a metro stop, organic open bar and hors d’oeuvres, LED-lighting decor, locally grown flowers, recycling, composting, the purchase of carbon offsets, all the way down to hosting the event’s website on a California-based solar-powered server. Many of the guests in attendance also sported gowns and suits made out of sustainable fabrics.

After an opening act by Just Live, Wyclef Jean sang his hits from Shakira’s "Hips Don’t Lie" to freestyles about the incoming President ("Mr. Bush, pack your bags. Thank you, but no Thank you!"), all to cheers from the young, enthusiastic crowd. Mid-concert Wyclef taped a Barack My World bumper sticker to his forehead that he later gave to members of the Beanstockd Team after the concert. Boo yah, Ecorazzi. Artist Ryan Paul Simmons also presented a technicolor portrait of President Obama (pictured below) to Wyclef during the concert

To echo Summer Rayne Oakes’ sentiment, "2009 is our time to shine!" Here’s to you, President Obama!

This artist needs to bus a few more tables at the truck stop and service a couple more truckers in the bathroom before he gets another artsy idea.
